Fig Leaves...?

This coming week, we are hosting a very important guest from Denmark :)... My father! We are very much looking forward to his arrival and stay, and this weekend we are preparing the guest room.

Stumbled over this chic guest room on one of the House & Home Blogs, written by Margot Austin. This is her own guest room and I find it super cheerful. Yellow is typically not my thing, but this awning stripe is just so pretty, and watering it down with toms of white, a dark table to settle the room, makes it work for me.

Side note.... Notice the ever so slight pops of light blue in the pillow design, and then look at the clever use of this color in the guest room, picked up by the bedside light fixture. GREAT!

Peter Dunham's Fig Leaf fabric fashioned into a great pillow, had me at Hello!!

I came across this super great Etsy Shop Spark Modern, where you can get your fill of accent pillows, including this version.

Happy Sunday!

Chandelier love!

Ok, so it's been slim pickings on the Northern Light Blog this week, and for that I am sorry!
I have been incredibly busy (that's a good thing), so blogging has had to take a back seat.
I have had a few moments to catch up on all the new virtual magazines out these past few days, but not had the time to compose a proper post...

I am currently working on an apartment (with the most wonderful view) and after a very long search for the perfect chandelier, I selected this piece from Oly. I just love how simple the drum is, yet so interesting with the Capiz shell circles set in brass...

This afternoon I received an email from Canadian House & Home (LOVE that magazine by the way!!!) & as you may know, they have the whole social media thing down, newsletter, videos etc. Turns out they featured a Main Floor Makeover video, and yes, you guessed it... there was "my" chandelier! Yeah!! Interestingly enough, I am working with a similar muted color pallet. If you would like to view the video, you can check it out on my Pinterest board here.

What is your take on mixing metals in todays interiors? How do you feel about "warm" metals in an otherwise "cool" space? I like to mix it up a bit, though the whole shiny gold thing scares me a little, I am much more comfortable with the softer brass and brushed finishes :)

Busy, busy, busy!!     :)

Ford... Brad Ford

A few days ago I received my September Canadian House & Home Magazine, and dove right in. I so look forward to view their features, and find this magazine has filled the void, left behind, after other magazines have folded... If you have not already, you should check them out!

Cathrine Mackintosh (of CH&H) has written a little interview with Interior Designer Brad Ford. I was not familiar with Brad before this article. After doing a little research, I am, as it turns out, familiar with his work. Undoubtedly some of you may have seen his work, but for the rest of us, here are a few gems!

While bathed in beautiful natural light this space reads very warm and organic!

Brad Ford has been featured in a diverse selection of shelter magazines, ranging from Traditional Home to Country Living to New York Times, and the newbie of them all Lonny Magazine.

Those of you who read this blog, would probably have guessed correctly, if I had asked you to identify which interior images I like the best....... yep, you guessed it; saving the best for last!!

This piece of artwork leaning against the wall, how FAN.TAS.TIC is that? Does anyone out there know who the artist is??

If you would like to know more about Brad Ford, I encourage you to go to his website; Brad Ford ID. You can view his entire portfolio there as well. Furthermore, Brad is the author of the Design Theraphy blog.

Last but not least, BF was interviewed on William Sonoma's Designer Marketplace feature, where he discusses the importance and relevance of social media, including blogging. Something we can all agree on, as contributors and consumers of all things design - blog - worthy!

Thank you for staying with me on this one! :)
