Tropical Trend Watch

So, as it stands right now I "don't get out much"… That is, I do get to the park and an occasional visit to the mall from time to time, but with a baby, most of my shopping these days happens on the internet… well, research at least ;)

I - like so many of you - love Instagram, and I have found so many new resources (read; adorable Etsy shops) and from time to time while the baby is napping, I find myself getting lost looking at beautiful pictures from near and far. One trend that I have spotted (see, I do still pay attention) is that of big tropical leaves. Ok, so maybe you won't see me in a bikini this year, but if I were to pick one, this would be it! Did I mention it's a bargain?

… and if you are looking for the trend in a miniature version, I would select this Dolce & Gabbana dress and bloomers, I think is's so cute and kinda retro, but in a cool way.

… personally, I am trying NOT to hit the Sold Button for this D&G dress for baby Lilly! So, So cute, but really, how many dresses can one girl have, let alone in this caliber??

If you think this trend is cool, but would rather keep it inside, here is a fun PJ from India Hicks.

Happy Weekend, y'all!

Table Top Done Right

Many of you probably are probably just as guilty as I am, when it comes to Instagram…
I think we forget to read sometimes, just get carried away looking at pretty pictures, but when I came across this amazingly beautiful image on The Zoe Report on IG, I just had to go and read the article :)

I would love to sit here for a Mother's Day Tea Party, wouldn't you??? I am totally loving the dark table; Raw, matte and such an amazing backdrop for the Bohemian / English Garden floral arrangements. The Chintz napkins lend whimsy, the earthenware plates and "thrown together" look makes it all look very casual, yet this is one of the most stylish table tops I have seen in a long while!!

This party has a lot more to it!
Check out all the resources here, and many more pictures from the event!

Sunday Flowers

Yesterday, before the rain set in, I went to the market, with the intend to pick up a bouquet of fresh flowers.... I was thinking pink, but could really have been persuaded to go with "whatever" looked good. I always have a few orchids in my house at all times, I find that not only are they beautiful, but they really last a long time, so for me that's a win-win situation! However, I was at the receiving end of a beautiful bouquet of soft pink Hydrangeas - my favorite - delivered to my door, about two weeks ago, and yesterday was their last day... so, I wanted to replace them. Well, I came home with organic strawberries, heirloom tomatoes, fresh baked cranberry scones and... no flowers! Just was not my day I guess.

Do you keep fresh flowers in your home? I know from many years of reading the Anna Spiro Blog that she has come under fire from various people, for her constant joy of fresh flowers, and ONLY fresh flowers in her house... I totally get it though, I have been lucky to have grown up with a mom who had a green thumb and we always had fresh flowers on the table, on the night stand and in the bathroom. Unfortunately, the same green thumb did not pass through the genes from my grandmother to my mom to me, so I must buy my fresh cut flowers... Non the less, I truly enjoy selecting them, caring for them & enjoying them for as long as I can!!

Sunday Flowers

Hi there... Remember me??

I know, it's been a loooong while since I have posted on a regular basis! Not that I have not wanted to, there has just not been enough hours in the day (ok, in many days!!!), so something had to give...

If you are still with me, I think that's really great, Thank You, and if you are new to the Northern Light Blog, even better, since you have not had time to miss my input :)

Sunday Flowers used to be one of my favorite weekly posts, and while I have not posted to the blog, I have certainly been busy on Pinterest, this is my Loving Flowers board, feel free to follow! I encourage you to check out the other boards as well, on this board called Northern Light Design, I share a little of my work from time to time, so you can see that I am actually doing "something" :)

... yesterday, I was the lucky recipient of a surprise delivery of fresh flowers... Hot pink Hydrangeas to be exact, sent to me from a Happy Client, and you just can't beat the feeling of a job well done!

Hope to be posting a lot more going forward, so Thank You again for hanging in there with me!!

Pattern Mix

So... what do you think? Ikat, Floral, Raw Linen... Does it all work??

I was drawn to this image today. I like a good bedside image, you know, one of those where everything is in its place, fresh flowers on the table, artwork and good reading light... To me this TOTALLY WORKS!
... I'm just not sure I would have dressed the bed in those sheets, considering the headboard, but that's just me :)

What is the verdict?
Go or NO-go??

Bang & Thy; Fall Mood.

Walking the streets of Aarhus, Denmark, I came upon Bang & Thy. This burst of lime green against the black wood, made me stop and take a closer look!

A floral shop... an inviting space to explore.
Super cool floral arrangements, plants and... well, you"ll see...

I spent a good amount of time wandering, looking at everything. There were flowers I had not seen in a long time (remember, I now live in a tropical climate), branches with fall leaves and berries, even a fountain with cream colored floating roses.

In the back of the store a display fit for fall. Dark grey candles flickering, fall berries and vegetables used for display, probably for sale, I'm not quite sure...

The inner sanctum; A dark corner with dark walls, a beautiful old mirror propped up against the wall. A large old birdcage with a couple of real live lovebirds! A zinc box and dried hydrangea wreaths complete the display.

... and what do you do when there are not a lot of flowers around and the creative juices are still flowing? Use what you have!! Interesting, no?

Of course there were beautiful roses, lillies and other blooms, even decorative grasses. The entire shop was such a fantastic place to wander through, so inspirational and eye opening. I love the use of fur, unexpected in a space like this (at least I think so).

While my images are a bit on the dark and mysterious side, there were pops of vibrant fall color throughout, my favorite being this glass cylinder!!
FAN.TAS.TIC! Don't you think? So simple, so beautiful!!

These images were taken on my second visit to the store. I asked to photograph in there, but was not immediately granted permission. I came back a second time, met the owner, Dean, and after talking with him for a little while he agreed to let me photograph. I was told someone had taken images in his store without his consent, and subsequently sold those images, featuring his work... Not cool!

Check out the Bang & Thy website here, though nothing beats a visit to this interesting and ever changing universe!

Weekend perfection!

Any plans this weekend?
I am in a serious need of a cleaning up and making pretty weekend... but I will be working Saturday, so that leaves Sunday for fun and games :)

If I had a wonderful, bright and light filled kitchen like this, then I think I would be hanging out here, what about you? Not ofthen does one see a dutch door, not around here at least, I really like how it's almost like opening up a window!! This little banquet is designed by Kathryn M. Ireland, using her own fabrics. Great mixture of sunny yellow, stripes, florals and good thinking with the denim on the bench cover!!

What a happy place to start the day!
Happy Weekend to you all :)
