(Friday) Morning Java

Nothing like the aroma of fresh ground coffee beans in the morning, right?

Seeing the perfect espresso pouring from the machine...

Finishing an amazing Morning Java, from a beautiful faceted glass, what is better than that??
It's about finding the beauty in everyday things and tasks...
Look around you; observe, appreciate, change what bothers you and be happy!!

Hope your weekend will be wonderful!!!

Morning Java

Yep, this is pretty much what is happening right now... Computer open, Coffee in my cup, Breakfast half way done, and any minute I need to be out the door!

Have a busy day scheduled today... Furniture and accessory shopping, could be fun and fruitful, could be a lot of running around, but hopefully we will find at least some of what we need :)

(Friday) Morning Java

This morning I am starting the day sharing a cup of coffee with a dear friend, these days are to far and few in between!!

In actuality, today is a super busy day... house cleaning and all the errands that go with that, finishing up emails for the week, and preparing for two exciting already-in-the-works projects for next week. Hopefully I can fit it all in :)

TGIF!

Not your typical Garden Variety!

Looking for something textural, moody and interesting today? Come with me, I have a wonderful home to share with you, designed by Garden Variety Design
I stumbled upon them via the Scout Guide...

While so much of the home is light filled, the dark wood floors set the natural tone, right as you walk in...

Many of my favorite pieces collected here in this nook in the foyer : Those old, silver leafed, rounded-corner-mirrors propped against the wall, the Swiss basket and the beautiful patinad set of drawers along with a beautiful rug (seen above).

The large tufted sofa is covered in natural Belgian linen, and if you look around the room, you will find that there are tons of natural elements here, lot's and lot's of texture!

Those timeworn tables are super cool, and work SO well here! I would probably have been a little hesitant to ad more dark wood, as the floor is so dark to begin with, but I think the finished product is wonderful. Notice that the only "real" color in the room is the Teal Scandinavian grandfather clock, a cool touch!

Mixing shells with the rustic look has been done in this home to perfection, emphasizing natural textures and colors... I see reclaimed wood, natural linen, glass, shells, coral, painted wood, wicker, iron, paper (shades on lamps), petrified wood (stool by the sofa), mohair (throw) and wool (rugs).

Love the moody mix!!

(Monday) Morning Java!

Rise and Shine!
It's a super beautiful day here in South Florida! Sunny, cool (for us), no wind (not even a breeze at this point), no clouds, no dreaded humidity, just PERFECT!

I feel so fortunate that I can enjoy this weather, really enjoy it :) For as long as I have lived here, I have been working in a job, where this time of year is "crunch time", being that South Florida is a seasonal place for so many northerners, which translates into "busy time" for everyone else, which again means that one is stuck working many extra hours and therefor is unable to truly appreciate why we choose to live in Florida in the first place... hmmmm... Clearly I have been longing for the freedom to truly enjoy what so many come so far to have, and all along I have "it" right here!!

So today, I will be HAPPY and APPRECIATIVE !

OK, so by the time this post hits the blog-o-sphere, it will have become afternoon, but that's only because I have been busy tackling my to-do list this morning... Yes, I actually wrote a list, so not to forget anything, and let me tell you... it's a loooonnnggggg one today, LOL!!

With all these cups of yummy deliciousness above,
I should be able to get through the day and "The List"!

Opening the Box...

I am sure many of you already have the tree trimmed, baked the cookies and have the gifts wrapped and ready to go, right? Right...?
Well, around here I have just started to open the boxes with the Christmas decor!

We have decided NOT to do a tree this year, as we are both pretty busy and feel we don't really have the time to truly enjoy it... That being said, don't for a minute think there will be no Christmas decor in the house, I can't wait to decorate!!

There are so many ways to spruce up the house & to show off all those pretty ornaments!!
I like to pile them on a platter, perhaps a few different shapes and muted colors together, as above, but you can also try filling a beautiful glass bowl. Why not incorporate a few tea lights to make the ornaments glisten? I am all about live candles, especially when it gets dark outside early.

What colors will you be decorating with this year? Or are you "one of those" ;) people who pile it all on the tree; new and old, theme-y or not, heirlooms & gifts?? Do tell!
So much fun to see & hear how people decorate their Christmas trees!!

New on the Virtual Newsstand...

The brand new November 2012 Lonny magazine is live. Starting the weekend off with a warm cup of tea, the cat sleeping at my feet, laptop open and enjoying the Apartment Makeover feature!!

I think I have said it before, but good work deserves praise, so here goes... I throughly enjoy all the work of the Lonny team, from the photography to the styling, the diverse selection of people featured and last but not least, I use the magazine as a tool in my work. So often I see a piece of furniture or an accessory in a magazine, and I am unable to locate, but the tech savvy people at Lonny have the links ready to go. Couldn't be easier or more work friendly, love exploring new-to-me artists and vendors.

... and a good little vignette always makes me happy! Even when there is one to many boxes... What do you think? Overkill, great styling, cool collection, or?

Have a great weekend!!

Shopping: Brandts Indoor, Denmark

Last September I visited Brandts Indoor, an Interior Design shop in Odense, Denmark. I had read about the shop in a local magazine, and even wrote a small post here on the blog about my impending visit.

I was fortunate to meet Sara, the proprietor, she took time out of her busy day to chat with me, telling me about the shop, about her buying trips and even was kind enough to unfold a few prized Kelims for me, well knowing that they would not fit in my suitcase....

Not only is the shop filled to the brink with interesting ethnic designs and the largest collection of Kelims you have seen, there are books from all corners of the world, beautiful brushes with handles of Jade, Lapis, Cornelian (I think) & horn. I am a sucker for these, and could have bought a few...

Besides the obvious, large and colorful selection of pillows and rugs, beautiful artisan jewelry can be found there. In my latest design project, I have been working with natural tones ranging from Cream to the softest Blue-Grey, warmed up with some natural wood tones, so these images are right in tune with what I have "trained my eye to see" for the past few months.

On a warmer note, color wise, I just had to share these two images, as they showcase such beautiful textiles and color combinations.... not to forget the dog, he even "matches"!

If you would like to visit Brandts Indoor, but a trip to Denmark is not in the cards, you can visit the online shop here. Last year in the early fall Elle Decoration, UK, published a spread on Saras home, you can view that here. As you can see in those images, a typical Scandinavian white painted space beautifully benefits from a little exotic flair and warmth. I am looking forward to my next visit already!!

Ending this post with a pop of color, in the form of a leather string of silver rings with colorful stones. Perhaps a good stocking stuffer.... hint, hint!

Hope you have an amazing weekend :)

First Glimpse of Fall.

So, as the calendar inches closer to darker fall days and cooler temperatures (I hope), we all start to look at our interiors, cozying up and making pretty! All of a sudden those pretty yellow roses look too springy and we tend to go for darker colors...

There are easy ways for you to change your decor from light and airy to cozy and warm...
Use what you have, move furniture around, ad a rug, change the covers on your pillows, add a mohair throw for warmth and texture. Look in your cabinets, I am sure you have a few accessories tucked away, re-evaluate & re-purpose! Instead of flowers, fill a tall glass cylinder with sculptural branches...
My go-to; Lot's of candlelight, absolutely love a flickering candle!!

Books... you can do so much with a coffee table book, it can help set the mood and color scheme for an entire room. How about stacking books with brown leather backs on a nightstand, ad a beautiful candle or a small box on top... it's really that easy! Style up your everyday life, it will make you happy to see beauty when you go to bed, and first thing in the morning :)

Happy decorating!

Frames...

... I need new frames! I have had my current glasses for way to many years, so it's time!! I tend to wear my contacts most of the time, but I am starting to find it irritating when my eyes dry out, due to the stress of working on the laptop for long periods of time...

While these cat-eye frames are insanely chic and look amazing, they totally do not work for my face...

... and the super dark / black frames are better left to the brunettes.
I just came across these Vintage Crystal Robert Marc frames on my NYC trip, and they are SO COOL! This is what I had in mind, and these look awesome, so I think it's a go :)

A little while back a came across this Pinterest board, and it brought me to this blog post, which I loved, and it made me look at glasses as a fashion statement again...
I run out to the movies with my glasses on, to the stores and markets, even to see clients from time to time, so why not have a pair I really, really love??

Seeing is believing,
Natasha

New on the Virtual Newsstand... Y'all!

Come on down to Texas y'all, the new rue magazine is leading the way!
I was very tempted to call this post "Fifty Shades of Grey," but thought the better of it :)
Anyhow... now that I have your attention, I would like to say that I am a new fan of Graphic Artist & Interior Decorator Samantha Reitmayer Sano.

The girls at rue saved the best for last! I am totally crushing on the muted colors, the warmth and all the natural textures in this home. OK, so one confession I do have to make. There are one to many accessories for my taste (or my lifestyle for that matter) but for the purpose of the photo shoot, it is really working well!! ... is it just me, or did you also expect to see Texas Longhorns above that cabinet, and not antlers...?? Check out the entire house on page 126.

... and these two little guys, well they are from a completely different feature, don't ask why I am including them here, I just thought they were charming!!

Happy reading,
Natasha
