A little note.

A quick note to all of you who have taken the time to offer hugs and prayers, warm thoughts, phone calls and emails, we truly, truly are grateful!

It has been a really difficult couple of days, but we are doing better. Lucky for us we still have Maple, our other cat, and while we have been sad, he has been there to cuddle with, making the loss of Snow a little easier....
( + I think he is really enjoying all the attention :) )
Maple was with us before Snow came into our lives, and we are so thankful he is still here with us!!

Remember the Foyer!

This week - in the US - it's all about entertaining, and while I am sure we will see our share of table top inspired posts - I might even do one, who knows - I don't want you to forget about the first thing guest see when arriving at your house; The Foyer!

Clean it up! Put away the old mail and all the shoes!! Make sure there is a pretty chair or stool for your guests. Something pretty for the eye, perhaps a candle to set the mood! Love the leaning artwork below, easy to prop for the event, and easy to move afterwards, no holes in the wall!

Fresh flowers goes a long way, but if they are not in the budget.... cut a few branches and arrange in a glass cylinder for sculptural effect!

Remember... this is where your guest start their experience, so start off your holiday celebration right, by doing something outrageous and fun here! Get the conversation going.

100,000 and counting...

 

I have some super exciting news to share with you today!

Northern Light blew by the 100,000 page view mark yesterday, and I must confess... I am totally excited about that!! YEAH! :)

Thank you to all of you who have signed up for emails, to all of you follow the blog, to the Northern Light Facebook friends, and to all of you who stop by from time to time to check in.
I am so happy when you leave me a comment, even when you send me an email from time to time!!! Lately I have seen "new faces" trickle in via Northern Light on Pinterest, all very exciting!

An Award!!

Two in the same day, no less!!!!



It's actually a funny story....
I was contacted by Global Atelier, who left me a wonderful comment, and I was just super happy to be considered, no less selected....

Later in the same day (well, with the time difference is was actually the next day) I got an other nomination from Hello Hello Baby, same award!!  Really? Really??

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!

Usually these things come with no strings attached, but there is a catch with this one. I must write 7 things about my self, as well as list 15 (!) new recipients of my choice, preferably new bloggers.... Well, here's where I get into trouble, you see, I "don't get out much", so for me to give you the names of a lot of little-known-blogs would be really hard! I will let you know, that Louise (Table Tonic author) down in Australia,  post a series called "Bookmark-worthy sites I (only) discovered this week", and usually there are "some good ones" in there..... ;)

Party Time!!

Come on...send out that party invitation!
Pick a color "that's you" and stick with it!
Use this color in every thing you do....

Look around you, since you picked Your Color I bet you have accessories in your home already in that color?! Gather your "stuff" and start arranging...

Look, even a book cover can become part of the decoration. (I find that often the spine of the book is a different color than the rest of the cover, so take a second look around, you might be surprised to find more in Your Color).

Greet your guests with the cocktail of the evening, which of cause you have planned to work with Your Color, right?? Right!

Look how little it takes; a few ornaments in Your Color, a throw on the back of the chair.... Make food and drink stations around your home, that way not everyone ends up in the kitchen :)!
Don't sweat the small stuff, you already have what you need in your house, you just need to look at it with a fresh eye!!

An Award!!

I have received an award for blogging!! YEAH!

I am totally excited about this recognition, I knew about it last week, but needed to "sit on it" for a few days, so to weigh my selections and not make a total fool of myself when announcing this exciting award.

So here goes:

• To start where Nellie left off... Ironing! I actually like to iron, it must be something to do with the crispness of all things ironed. If you iron your bedding, you know what I am talking about!
• Cooking; not good at cooking for two, but I can cook for 10....
• Black Licorice... The saltier the better! Even receive "The real stuff" sent to me from home (hint, hint)!
• Don't really watch much TV; catch the news, but NEVER reality shows....Tell me why they need writers if it's "reality"?
• Glossy magazines (I might have mentioned this before); nothing better than curling up with a cup of tea, reading a stack of interior and fashion magazines!!
