It's the Weekend...

...wouldn't it be fun to escape to Rome for the weekend?

I am reading Eat. Pray. Love. and have just completed the Roman Holiday part, now on to India... Looking forward to the movie! If you would like to view the trailer, check it out here.

I have nothing super exciting planned for my weekend, what about you? Would love to hear what you are doing and perhaps get inspired!

By the way, I read this post this morning, and it got me thinking I should check out a few antique stores... hmmm...

Have a fun weekend, what ever you choose to do! :)

Making waves

Spending a little time in Blog land this evening, I visited with Rhonda, over at All the Best. There I came across this great image of an almost local interior, down in Bal Harbor, designed by Frank de Biasi. I can't get my eyes of off the great images in the background... great photography!

I then remembered seeing something similar at C.Bell in Palm Beach. So, if you are interested, head over there to take a look, you won't be disappointed! (sorry, these two are a little blurry.... it's not your computer)

Waking up...

... to this vase (fun) and these peonies (beautiful), new sunglasses (yeah) and a cool image.... perhaps staying in bed is not such a bad idea ;)... ok, snap out of it... going to work!

Have a great day, everyone!

The text on the vase reads: "when I woke up this morning I realized it was the perfect day to stay in bed and drink champagne"

Fashion

I have not really seen any fashion worth posting about in a very long time, perhaps my eyes have been looking at interiors more than fashion...
However, it does not get much better that Olivia Palermo in Paris, captured by Stockholm Street Style, in my opinion.
SOOOO Pretty, don't you think?

Not quite Hawaii

Last summer I was fortunate to visit China and Hong Kong. The visit was short, but an experience of a lifetime, and I hope to be able to return someday...

In Hong Kong, on a day of site seeing, we visited the Ngong Ping Plateau and the Po Lin Buddha (Asia's largest seated outdoor Buddha) on Lantau Island. The cable car ride up to the site is unbelievable, with views of the South China Sea, not to be missed!!

While it was incredibly hot in HK, the weather was cool in the mountains. Half way up the stairs to the Buddha, in the drizzling rain, I spotted this beautiful Hibiscus.

.... and this image leads me on to why this post is called "Not quite Hawaii".... Well, a few posts back, I shared with you a little ray of sunshine (here), and a quick walk around my neighborhood revealed all these different varieties of Hibiscus. Living in South Florida, these are "nothing special", but coming from the North, these are the one flower that represents the tropics and the Islands of Hawaii (we call them Hawaii Flowers), so here goes:

Hope you enjoyed my little walk as much as I did ;)

Just Because...

I found one more great hallway that would go so well with this post. Pretty, right? The glass in the french doors by the entrance is so old fashioned and girly, yet the space is so now! ...well, to me anyway.

Tall, Dark and Handsome

See, I knew I would get your attention ;)
And since this is (mostly) an interior design blog, I figured I better stick to that...

I  just came across this image, and since black and white interiors are right up my alley, I figured this tall, dark and handsome cabinet would fit right in here at Northern Light!
I like the extra height, and the glossy finish. With the interior painted white, the cabinet stays light in feeling.

The image is form Home Beautiful, but I am not sure where the home is actually located....

Have a wonderful weekend!

Soft Blues... again

I am particularly interested in the wall art; Is it a tapestry? Is it a wooden, carved wall plaque? Does anyone know?
Either way, I think it ties the whole room together beautifully; the metal sconces, the dark floor, the lacquered coffee table, the blue walls and the neutral furniture. Do you think the room was built around this piece of artwork? It would almost be too much of a coincidence to build up the room, and then go hunting for art, that would fit the space so perfectly.... just a thought!

Have a beautiful day,

Natasha

Soft Blues

Very light and soft; the dark woven chairs grounds the room, the black mullions, keeping it crisp and interesting, lots of interesting things to keep your eye moving. While the light is fantastic here, the view does not look to be the best.... But that could just be in this frame ;) !
I seem to remember that this room was done by Vicente Wolf, but I could be wrong... it has been in my files for a little while.

Have a wonderful day,

Tulle in all sizes

I have a very dear friend, who from time to time invites me to the ballet. I have been fortunate to see the Miami City Ballet dance many times, and I must say I have loved all performances. (All but one actually, where we walked out on the last part....)

I have had this adorable image in my files for a very long time now, and who ever Vivianne is; You get an A for creativity in my book!! This would definitely catch my eye, walking down the street; very classy street poster!!!!

I can only imagine ....

Tulle for grown-ups!

I know this is a totally random post for the Northern Light blog, but as inspiration comes from everywhere, I figured I would share! Hope you got a kick out of these adorable images...

It's the Weekend...

Happy 4th of July weekend!

For everyone here in the states, this is a big holiday weekend; people leaving their jobs early on Friday, not to return until Tuesday, a long weekend get-away is what many plan for! I am sure coastal towns from Maine to The Hampton's to Miami Beach will be jam packed!!

The flag will flying high all over, parades & barbecues will be held and everyone will be enjoying the beautiful summer weather! I will be in town, relaxing.....

Happy 4th of July to all, and remember;
Thank all the men and women who make it possible...

Wall of Art

Is this not a beautiful way to display art, without one piece taking over the whole room. Great light; love the soft white, the natural sisal(?) rug, and the few natural wood pieces. I am also drawn to the black Asian lacquered chairs!

Great composition of a casual room!

Happy 1st of July!

A little sunshine coming your way!
Check out this absolutely beautiful orchid. It is growing on a palm tree a few doors down from my house. Every so often two, or three, of these gorgeous blooms greet me, I just had to snap an image and share with all of you!

Can you believe it's already July..... WOW!

Lavender

I very close friend of mine came to visit the other day, and she NEVER arrives empty handed. She brought with her this large, fragrant lavender plant. (Thank you M.E.!)
It looked so great in this corner, but it took me just under two weeks to kill it.......... yep, that's right, I totally over watered it..... Total bummer, but at least I got a picture ;)

Hope you have a wonderful day,

Hall of Fame

Perhaps it's because I do not have a Hall in my little house, that I am fascinated by how to make one functional and pretty all at the same time..... Perhaps it's because I have been looking for great images for a Hall re-do for a friend (Hi MB!)...

What is your take on these four beauties?
