Image of the Day

Drawn to this slightly rustic interior today...
The colors, the different kinds of wood, the iron and the mercury glass, the leather upholstered bench. Love it all!!

Lighten up :)

Now, this is more me... I am very happy in an all white room, with a hint of grey or black. This room has both AND I spy a throw by Hermes, and we all know how I feel about those :)
Since their logo spots my H, I don't see why I should not have one.... some day!

I just have one question; Should the gorgeous silver leaf mirror have been moved up a little?? Perhaps it's the angle of the photograph, I don't know... Something to ponder over the weekend!

Chandelier love!

Ok, so it's been slim pickings on the Northern Light Blog this week, and for that I am sorry!
I have been incredibly busy (that's a good thing), so blogging has had to take a back seat.
I have had a few moments to catch up on all the new virtual magazines out these past few days, but not had the time to compose a proper post...

I am currently working on an apartment (with the most wonderful view) and after a very long search for the perfect chandelier, I selected this piece from Oly. I just love how simple the drum is, yet so interesting with the Capiz shell circles set in brass...

This afternoon I received an email from Canadian House & Home (LOVE that magazine by the way!!!) & as you may know, they have the whole social media thing down, newsletter, videos etc. Turns out they featured a Main Floor Makeover video, and yes, you guessed it... there was "my" chandelier! Yeah!! Interestingly enough, I am working with a similar muted color pallet. If you would like to view the video, you can check it out on my Pinterest board here.

What is your take on mixing metals in todays interiors? How do you feel about "warm" metals in an otherwise "cool" space? I like to mix it up a bit, though the whole shiny gold thing scares me a little, I am much more comfortable with the softer brass and brushed finishes :)

Busy, busy, busy!!     :)

L'Wren Scott in Paris

Just came across this super chic apartment in Paris, and just had to share. It is owned by L'Wren Scott and has just been photographed by Francois Halard for Vogue. Not only is the light fantastic, but the mix of furniture and art is amazing. After studying the images I have two favorite spots!

The above table and sculpture with the contemporary art in the background, as well as the bedroom. Those deep raspberry red silk dupioni drapes are amazing, and pared with the Suzani on the bed... super cool!!

Heather (Habitually Chic) is on the ball as always, so if you would like to see the entire Paris Apartment, head over there. OR, stop by Vogue.

White, Grey, Black and Natural

Bringing you a beautifully home, photographed by Brigitta W. Drejer.

Capturing the special Scandinavian Light is a job in its self...

The very subtle nuances... An all White home, sprinkled with the palest Grey and beautifully aged furniture...

Bringing in Black to ground the space, Metallic to ad a little sparkle and natural texture to keep it real! Love the touch of the leather boxing gloves, even if it's just styling for the image...

Now, this is a dining room table I would want to spend time at!! Again the White space has been balanced wonderfully by the three Black lamps, the Zinc table top and the natural materials.

... A small but interesting detail from the large cabinet in the living room. Photography, as well as Scandinavian decorating, at its best!!

This post was inspired by my visit today at Basalt Indretning in Copenhagen (you might remember this post, featuring the private home of Anne Fabricius-Bjerre, owner of Basalt).

(Summer) House Love

OK, so in my book, this is EXACTLY what a summer house should look like!!!!
Large comfy furniture, white painted everything, a view that you can just sit and watch all day long... Imagine the long, light filled Scandinavian evenings, candlelight, family and friends.

Happy Summer!

Reclaimed door

... picking up where I left off the other day...

Here is another salvaged door, painted the palest of blue and out fitted with a beveled mirror. Do you have any reclaimed items in your home? Care to share??

TGIF!

First Nest

Hi all!
Came across these images again today; I know this small First Nest apartment made the rounds on all the design blogs, quite a while ago, but I just felt it was worth showing again.... Enjoy!

So pretty and crisp!
That yellow lamp base is such a happy punch of color!!

Love the black chair in this light filled room!! Notice how the pattern in the curtains pick up all the colors in the room....
I would have made them floor length, though!

Girly mirror and a pretty little spot for hair and make-up, perhaps even for writing a little note....  A lucite stool provide seating, and can be pushed under the "desk" when not in use, keeping the room light!

My first apartment was in the best location, but not this stylish :)

Wall of Art

Is this not a beautiful way to display art, without one piece taking over the whole room. Great light; love the soft white, the natural sisal(?) rug, and the few natural wood pieces. I am also drawn to the black Asian lacquered chairs!

Great composition of a casual room!
