Tropical Trend Watch

So, as it stands right now I "don't get out much"… That is, I do get to the park and an occasional visit to the mall from time to time, but with a baby, most of my shopping these days happens on the internet… well, research at least ;)

I - like so many of you - love Instagram, and I have found so many new resources (read; adorable Etsy shops) and from time to time while the baby is napping, I find myself getting lost looking at beautiful pictures from near and far. One trend that I have spotted (see, I do still pay attention) is that of big tropical leaves. Ok, so maybe you won't see me in a bikini this year, but if I were to pick one, this would be it! Did I mention it's a bargain?

… and if you are looking for the trend in a miniature version, I would select this Dolce & Gabbana dress and bloomers, I think is's so cute and kinda retro, but in a cool way.

… personally, I am trying NOT to hit the Sold Button for this D&G dress for baby Lilly! So, So cute, but really, how many dresses can one girl have, let alone in this caliber??

If you think this trend is cool, but would rather keep it inside, here is a fun PJ from India Hicks.

Happy Weekend, y'all!

A Celebration...

A celebration is in order!!  The Northern Light Blog turns 4 years today, and what a wonderful time it's been, reading all your blog posts out there, writing my own, and following along with others from a far!

You might think I have lost my marbles, posting three images of the same venue, but I can explain… well, actually… I just couldn't choose, and I kinda like the natural progression :)

This beautiful table was done up by non other than India Hicks, for - what I am absolutely sure was - an amazing New Years Eve Celebration on Harbour Island in the Bahamas.
I take it my invite must have gotten lost in the mail ;)

Have a wonderful, festive, fun New Year!

It's Island Time...

... well, that little title got me exploring! You see, I have covered the home of India Hicks here on the blog, I have even done a little write-up on her property King's Treat , so when an email landed in my inbox today with the above title, well, I just had to take a tour of the website! Here are a few of my picks, clearly you'll spy a theme... LOL!

I am a sucker for well constructed mood boards!

... and while I am not particularly a Skull & Cross Bone kinda girl, I do know of Pirates looming those Bahamian waters a long time ago, so this tee has made the cut for that reason :)

Oui, Oui, Oui!! Would LOVE to get my hands on this Cashmere Hoodie. Spending the day at the beach, the sun can get to you and you actually can get quite cold in the evening, so I say Oui to snuggling up in this one.

I thought the write up for this new Bondi Beach Bag was hysterical, I am sure lot's of you moms out there would agree!?

Full well knowing how HOT it gets in the tropics, this Cotton and Silk Cyprian Dress would be a summer stable... Wear as a bikini cover up, as a dress or even with white jeans.

Going out on the town?  This is my pick for a chic summer clutch!

Can you imagine... waking up to this every day??? I can't remember seeing a more beautiful Sunrise! Can't get enough Island Time? Lean back and take a moment, this little spot will transport you away... for just a few minutes, where ever you are :)

Orange-you glad it's the weekend? Enjoy!!

Baby Pink, Blush, Softest-of-them-all...

... call it what you want, but how pretty are these images? Isn't funny how you come across colors from time to time that just "stay with you", make an impression?? That's the way I feel about this soft, pretty shade of baby pink. I do not have it in my own home, but I am still drawn to it... Someday maybe :)

Factor in the elegant India Hicks, in her beautiful Bahamian home, and the color instantly becomes chic and beachy at the same time.

Taking a somewhat retro tile job, to Super Chic Bathroom, with the softest of pink on the walls.

... and haven't we all drooled over this image, originally featured in a Martha Stewart magazine a few years back??

I had the pleasure of visiting the over-the-top cool Soho Beach House in Miami, and instantly fell in love with the wall color in the woman's bathroom (I know, a little odd, considering the rest of the hotel is AMAZING!!), so I snapped this image with my phone :) I remember thinking it was a strange choice of bench, and I kinda still do... What do you think?

What is your favorite pale pink color?? Your go-to shade? How do you use it?

The letter H

Take a close look at this cuff... Do you see it?

I share the initial H with non other than India Hicks, and this cuff is from her collection at Sugar Mill by India Hicks. It's very inexpensive, even better right?

Have a fun week :)

King's Treat!!

The Bahamas have been on my mind lately, wanting to make the short trip so bad.....
A friend of mine is getting married (Fall 2012), and since "the other half" is Bahamian, perhaps the event will take place there, but it has not been decided yet, guess what my vote would be!

Please join me for a little tour of King's Treat, an India Hicks property. All these directors chairs are lined up like soldiers, ready to welcome you, easy to pick up and move to where ever you would like to spend a little time....
You know I am good for a Black & White themed photo, don't you?

A newly renovated, simple kitchen. Sustainable surfaces, easy to maintain and finishes that will stand up to the sea air, which is an absolute must in Island Living!! (Pun intended!! ;) ) Love artwork in a kitchen, and why not bring in some of the foliage... It's all about indoor / outdoor living anyhow, right?

Doubling the living space; Wide porches surround the house, and lounge-y seating areas make for comfortable living! Keeping all the woodwork white and cool, keeps your senses calm; quiet textures and interesting shadow patterns!! Love the graphic lines of the floorboards, the siding on the house, the Bahamian shutters, the trellis and the ceiling. Perrrfect for drinks; It's five o'clock somewhere, right?

Can you feel the breeze?
Such a pretty space!!
I am envisioning flip-flops and bathing suits.

Breakfast is served!
Not a bad way to start the day.....

A small bedroom shows much bigger than it is... Beautiful mix of Caribbean decor, quiet luxury, fresh flowers and clean fluffy towels! Yes, please! ... Love all the frames with local birds!

Sit here to write your travel notes, your postcards or a blog post, perhaps??

This beautiful estate is named Kings Treat, it's on Kings Street in Dunmore Town on Harbour Island, Bahamas. It's owned by India Hicks, and along with several different properties it is yours to rent for a week or more here.

Day dreaming at it's best :)

I'm a fan of Seafans!!

Have we not all drooled over the India Hicks book ISLAND LIFE? I know I have, and I especially remember this image, I find the white - on white - on white interesting! Her logo with the H's is so cool!! And I really like the gilded chair with the white linen upholstery, but what always catches my eye, is the upside down sea fan... Love that pop of coral. How pretty!

Next time I go snorkeling I will look for one.... Of cause it's a HUGE NO-NO to take anything away from a live reef, but sometimes these come loose, and can be found floating or washed up, look out!!

This beautiful black fan looks so cool against the white background, and the black frame just pops! If you look really closely, you can see all the tiny little "branches", acting as netting.

This image of sea fans is from Island Home, the store featured here.

So, are you a FAN yet??
