L'Wren Scott in Paris

Just came across this super chic apartment in Paris, and just had to share. It is owned by L'Wren Scott and has just been photographed by Francois Halard for Vogue. Not only is the light fantastic, but the mix of furniture and art is amazing. After studying the images I have two favorite spots!

The above table and sculpture with the contemporary art in the background, as well as the bedroom. Those deep raspberry red silk dupioni drapes are amazing, and pared with the Suzani on the bed... super cool!!

Heather (Habitually Chic) is on the ball as always, so if you would like to see the entire Paris Apartment, head over there. OR, stop by Vogue.

I have not had much free time to blog, I am sorry, but exciting things are happening!!! I wish I could share a little more, and eventually I will...

Yesterday I picked up the Coastal Modern book by Tim Clarke, just the right kind of Sunday reading I needed!! Totally inspiring and beautifully composed.

Fresh Flowers!

Stopped by the local flower stand (actually, this is at the local health food store), and the display of flowers was amazing... how do you just pick one? Do you go with what looks best? Do you go with color? Or white? Do you buy one of each, and no groceries...?

This holiday weekend I went with these bright and cheerful Hyacinths... They are not that common in Florida, so I grabbed the chance to change it up a little, never mind that they were a fortune, sometimes you just have buy that luxury item you can't live without! - and in this case, that's two bunches of hyacinths, which I am sure will keep me smiling the whole weekend and hopefully next week as well :)

Hope your Easter weekend will be fun!

It has been a few days since I received the email, that the new Matchbook Mag was hitting the virtual world, but I have - honestly - been too busy to dive in...

I have now added the fantastic store Rummage, to my list of must visits.
Kishani's treasure trove of a store begs to be explored further!!

... and who doesn't like a Love Story? Check out the wonderful article on Ann & Sid Mashburn. I wish there was a south Florida store to explore!!

Have fun reading!

Coastal Calm Charm.

... ok, so say that fast five times :)

Just absolutely loving the relaxed vibe from this Australian home! The linen covered sofas, the natural wood coffee table, the dogs, the shells, the stone floor... check out those glass containers filled with shells, starfish and sea urchins. I really like that they have been kept separate, so to better see and appreciate the texture, shape and color of the individual species.... just an observation!
LOVE the all over clam - coastal - vibe! To read the full story and to see more images from this home, check out the new Adore Home Magazine.

Enjoy!

P.S.
Sorry for the radio silence, I have been super busy finishing a few smaller projects, and time got away from me :)

Happy Monday!

Color makes me happy! ... well, almost as happy as white :)

This little still life combines so many of my favorites;
White, pink, turquoise, hydrangea, sea shells, candle light, amethyst and lacquer. So pretty!!
Hope your Monday starts your week on a happy note :)

Happy Weekend!

WOW! What a fantastic pop of bright blue....
The patina of this bench is amazing, don't you think? Makes me think of summer :)

Just wanting to relax with a few glossy mags this weekend, but I also have to get a little freelance work done!! I am visiting a new clients home on Monday, and I think I am just as excited as she is! Time will tell if it's a match made in heaven...

Hope your weekend will be FUN!

Mixing it up.

Is this a yea or a nay? Too much pattern? To many fabrics and colors??
I am totally undecided on this one.... Love the bright blue couch, and the suzani inspired pillows. Cool punch of color with the orange drapes. Gotta love the striped rug!!
BUT does it all work for you? So many styles mixed together... asian inspired coffee tables, chesterfield leather sofa, modern side chair, chaise and I could go on, and on...

Hmmmmm...?

Coffee table decorating.

Lately I have been looking at coffee tables. I am looking for a new one for my own house, but also for a client. We have yet to decide if it will be an ottoman type or a hard surface table, and that goes for both of us :)

In my research I have come across so many different versions and millions of ways to decorate them. In my own house I like things a little cleaner than this image, but the more I put things together for clients, the more I am leaning towards this look. It's interesting, personal, pretty and it just "feels good", which essentially is what I strive to do for my clients.

I came across this blog post from Canadian House and Home (MY favorite glossy mag, by the way), if you too, need a little inspiration. The image above is probably recognizable (if you are a blogger) as the work of Anna Spiro of ABT.

Have fun thinking about how to make your coffee table interesting.
Is yours "clean", filled with magazines, styled pretty, or???
Please do share :)

New on the Virtual Newsstand...

Just having a single day off this week, I was looking for something to inspire me...

Guess who just published their March / April 2012 issue? LONNY!!
... and with Michelle Adams in her Editorial video, promising more issues to come (beautiful hair, by the way), I am one happy reader!!!!

I was just introduced to Jenna Snyder-Phillips, the artist behind this great Black and White artwork. While I am not particularly a skull person, I really like the dark / light composition of this little tableau. Check out her story, and pick up a cool piece of artwork while you are at it....

Happy Sunday, Happy Reading!

... are you done brushing?

Well, I just thought I would ask!

I spotted this image and immediately thought of the many Chinese brushed I have.
Perhaps I should gather them and display them like this...
While I think this trend is kinda over, I still like them! To me they are interesting and bring texture and beauty to a coffee table. Looking at my small collection, I am reminded of my trip to China; my husband carried a few (... too many :), if you ask him) around, so we could bring some authentic brushes home to family and friends.

I have brushes from China, from Denmark and some that I have picked up in interior shops here and there in the US, overall they are all unique and interesting. Do you own any of these? Are yours all the same color or material?

Which is your favorite??

Stack 'em high!

Every once in a while you just need something new for the house, right?
Well, that time has come for me! I am on the lookout for new pillows...
They will go on our new sofa (that I have not purchased just yet ;) ) but I guess it never hurts to look!

I came across a beautiful advertisement in the new Ivy & Piper March / April issue for Heidi & Home, and just had to take a closer look.

Those cheerful blue and white zig zag pillows "had me at Hello", so summery and pretty!!

Turns out there are so many to choose from... take a look here!
And while you are on the Heidi & Home site, you should read the About section;
I want to be her "when I grow up" ;) !!

Happy shopping!

Cartier Odyssey!

A.MA.ZING!!!!

Did you get a glimpse of the long awaited Cartier "short film" / new commercial?
I admit, I was mesmerized... by the "cat", by the story, by the jewelry, by the music - just absolutely beautiful!!

"L'Odyssee de Cartier", directed by Bruno Aveillian, has been two years in the making.
Shot on location in Prague, in Spain & in Paris (at the famed Cartier store on 13 Rue de la Paix), but also with recreations of locations in India, Russia and China...

You must take three and a half minutes of your day - right here, right now - it's that beautiful! Enjoy!
... and remember, diamonds are a girls best friend ;)

Perhaps I will do spring cleaning... or not!
Maybe a trip to the beach is in store for me, I live so close, and don't go nearly enough!!!

Have a wonderful weekend!

New on the Virtual Newsstand...

It's here, the new rue magazine! Finally!!
I have been craving some new inspiration, and the March/April issue delivers...

I chose this image since I so rarely have any red in my image selections... and this dark red totally does it for me :)!!! I think the layering of the empty frames and mix of textures is interesting, oh, and yes... it's five o'clock somewhere, right?

Check out the feature on Kelie Grosso of Maison Luxe. What a fantastic workspace, loving all the white and pops of color! And those windows... to die for!!

P.S.
Maison Luxe has a website with great info, portfolio and webshop (here)
as well as a blog (here).

Bathroom delight...

Today I bring you a wonderful & dramatic bathroom, photographed by Shannon McGrath.
As a reader of Northern Light, you must know by now, that I like a good Black & White space, and this penthouse bathroom delivers! Those matte black wood panels in the back are so superior as a design element, and notice how the sinks are echoing the circular design, as well as the bath surround and tile work.
I like the sharp, pointy metal sculpture on the wall, why not hang art in the bathroom?
Tell me what you think??

Natasha

PS.
I was browsing the blog world this morning, and via Dustjacket Attic and a link, I was introduced to Shannon and her amazing portfolio!  The house featured on Dustjacket Attic is A.MA.ZING (I really like courtyard houses), I urge you to take a tour....

Grey with Envy!

Having a grey moment!
Be it silver, platinum or white gold.... I am finding these stackable rings to be just beautiful!!

... and keeping it all natural, makes this ring so interesting! The mother of pearl, the silver beads and the quartz (?) stones in their raw state, super cool ring!!

Do you have a favorite?
Do you stack your rings or keep them single? Silver or gold?

Are you The Everygirl?

It's true, it's live and it's The Everygirl site!
We have been teased for days now, the excitement has been building!
Check out this new site, I am sure it will be The Everygirls go-to source for inspiration and information. Like having a girlfriend in-the-know, you know, someone you can ask all the silly questions you kinda think you probably should know the answers to already, but don't...

Have fun exploring, and let me know what you think... if you remember to come back to the Northern Light Blog :)

Malene Birger By Mail!

... OK, so I totally missed this, don't know how, but I did...

Danish Fashion Designer Malene Birger has designed a stamp! Yes, a stamp...
All of a sudden - well, since July / August 2011 - it has become fashionable sending a letter again!!

And how did I find out about this you ask, well, on my birthday I received a letter from home with a lovely card and a FAN.TAS.TIC birthday gift.... The envelope was white, the writing black, the two different stamps were black, white & silver, and by closer inspection this is what I found!
You just know I went straight to the computer to find out more, right?

Well, it turns out this "little" design job was given to Malene Birger (a seasoned designer) and to Silas Adler (a newcomer), both stamps were launched during Copenhagen Fashion Week. Quite an honor!! As with her art, this stamp has been "drawn freehand, with broad, soft lines and bold, pure graphics."
I love the black bow and the black border!!

Think about the combination of stamps, ink and and color next time you write a letter. Presentation is everything people, even when sending a letter, and not just when it is a wedding invitation!!

It's never too late...

OK, so it's entirely possible that I spent a little too much time on Etsy this past week (!!), but I have found some really pretty things...

I just adore this white & black butterfly poster by Eva Juliet, and I am seriously thinking it would be a great piece to have on the wall in our bedroom. It would be pretty, hung low and just behind my bedside lamp, by my table... What do you think?

The french script reads "It's never too late to be who you want to be!"
It would be quite nice to wake up to in the morning... :)

Go be what you want to be... today!

Ocean view!

A little while back I found the most amazing ocean photo on Etsy.
I sent the dealer a message on her blog, but I haven't heard back. I have just spent time going through 87 pages of ocean photography on Etsy (and there were many more) in the hopes that I would find the image again, but no luck...

What I did find, were so many beautiful images, it makes it hard to choose just one!
I am sharing with you just a small selection of what I found :)

Have a calm day!

A little note.

A quick note to all of you who have taken the time to offer hugs and prayers, warm thoughts, phone calls and emails, we truly, truly are grateful!

It has been a really difficult couple of days, but we are doing better. Lucky for us we still have Maple, our other cat, and while we have been sad, he has been there to cuddle with, making the loss of Snow a little easier....
( + I think he is really enjoying all the attention :) )
Maple was with us before Snow came into our lives, and we are so thankful he is still here with us!!

Hope you have a fun week ahead of you.

Having the blues.

I have had this image in my files for a little while now... it was too spring-y to post in the fall, nothing to do with Christmas, but now that we are into February, it just seems right! - I am imagining a summerhouse on the shore somewhere, long sunny days, wet beach towels, sand on the floor, cozy evenings... Are you with me??

Have a great weekend! - Any plans?

Adore-ing St. Barts

Browsing through the new Adore magazine last night, I was fascinated by this shop St. Barts.
I think I could get lost in there for a while, the store looks like my dream house :)

If you would like to meet the owner and read a little about the store, you can do that here.

... and I just couldn't help myself, had to "throw in" these two little bright guys! Makes you smile, no? I am not entirely sure they would actually make it to my house, but they are cute to look at in the store.

UPDATE 06.04.13 : There is now a new web-shop if you are in the mood for long distance shopping.

A quiet start!

So... it's February already, where does time go??

Figured I would start the month off with a very calming image... to me at least :)

I am loving all the black ceramics, all the different shapes, and the matte black console table! Punches of pink, well, that's right up my alley! With a white backdrop and lots of natural light, this dutch home is super interesting!!

Check it out here and there are even more images here, but don't forget to come back and let me know what you think!?
