Pretty Table Top Inspiration

I just received my daily Domaine Home Inspirational Newsletter, and while there are days I just don't have the time to click through, today was different...

These pretty images were from Lindsay Lohan & Kathryn Irelands project, featured briefly on The Million Dollar Decorators, where KI was decorating LL's home, but prior to us seeing the reveal, LL ended up in a car accident... and we never got to see the finished project. Well, check out this link, and you can see what was created. I remember from the few episodes, that I really liked LL's home! The light & the vibe, but the interiors were awful ... LOL!

Meanwhile, these table top images were what stood out to me, love the eclectic feel, the colors and the casual vibe of outdoor entertaining!

Dutch Door Green

It's funny how one thing leads to another sometimes...

Currently I am knee deep in a "once-over" updating scenario at a clients home, and the project has started to evolve, beyond the original scope, which I am very happy with, and the client is excited to do, so that's a win-win situation! We are at the stage where you start to look around, suddenly things that looked ok before, needs updating now...

So, that leads me to todays post. I did not intend to show you Dutch Doors, you know, the "half-cut-off-in-the-middle-kind", that look so chic when hung on vacation homes or cottages...

BUT, I was chatting with my Paint Contractor this morning, and flirting with the idea of painting the Front Doors of my clients home a pow-color, we discussed taking the white exterior up a notch. Somehow I also got involved with the Landscaper, love that progression (!), and while we are replanting the entrance, it became clear that the front door needed a little help :)

SO... back to the Paint Contractor... I was thinking a fresh, bright green, like the one in the first image, he suggested "Dutch Door Green", which I have come to find out, is a deep, dark, beautiful green. I did not have that color in my fan deck, so a little research revealed the actual color, but also all these pretty actual Dutch Doors... and so this post was born.

I am fully aware that the above Yellow door is in fact not a Dutch Door, but I wanted to include it anyway, since it's just so cheerful :)

I live in a small community where we have regulations as to our facade, painting my Front Door a cheerful Yellow , Coral or Green is out of the question, unfortunately.

We have not yet decided on the clients FD color, I will let you know what we select, perhaps even post a before and after photo, stay tuned.

Have a cheerful day,
Natasha

Cottage Industry

Location, location, location... this adorable 900 sf Santa Monica 1930's Cottage didn't start out so pretty. As a matter of fact, it was billed as a teardown, but was in a "friendly walkable neighborhood", and had potential :)

Ceilings were raised, walls were painted white, a small addition (250 sf) was built to enlarge the master bedroom, ad a second bathroom and a closet.

In the kitchen, skylights were installed and a custom stain was added to the wood floors.

Now lots of natural light bounce around this charming cottage, and what was once a dark brick fireplace has been painted white and clad with beautiful wood mantle, raising the piece to be a focal point, and perfect place for a cheerful piece of leaning art.

Nothing like a glossy pop of color to welcome homeowner Julie Hart at the front door!!

Hope you enjoyed this tiny cottage, I think the owners did a great job in "lightning and brightening" what was once a dingy teardown. If you would like to see the before pictures cheek them out here.

Happy Monday!!

New on the Virtual Newsstand...

Yeah! A brand new House of Fifty has just hit the net... While this is their second pay-as-you-go issue, I didn't mind shelling out a  little green, to get some more color in my life :)

There are some interesting people to meet this time; an Artist, an Interior Designer, and a Floral Designer with the MOST beautiful floral shop! Trust me, you will want to visit Quince!! The cooler for the flowers that her dad built is just so beautiful, I think they might just have a side business there :) Makes me want to have a cooler like this for my everyday fridge... Well, ok, that might be a little over the top!

Enjoy!

Blog Fun!

I have done one of these LinkWithin posts before, quite a while back... I always notice how cool this little gadget is, be it here on the Northern Light blog or on someone else's blog, so I have composed a little fun DIY post of Themes.

TGIF!!

GOLDEN MOMENT

So... clearly I had a little extra time on my hands today, LOL, but in all seriousness, have you ever paid attention to the LinkWithin images on fellow bloggers pages? Do you use them to navigate? I do!! Not only do I love to see the images, but they entice me - if done right - to go exploring! I have noticed from my stats that I get a lot of traffic from LW and must admit to having tested this gadget here on the blog - I know, a little nerdy and calculated - trying to see what works and does not work, to get a good and relevant LW combo below my posts. I do not have hours and hours to search for perfect images on the web, save them and label them and post them and.... you get my point, I am sure, but rather I have tried to work with the technology at hand to optimize the time you spend here on Northern Light.

What do you think? Do you have experience with LW that you would like to share..?
Would like to know if I am the only one actually interested in this little gadget :)

New on the Virtual Newsstand... Vol. IV

So exciting this is!!!!
I can hardly keep up... now there are two new issues (adore HOME & Lovely Wedding Magazine) to read from the team at adore HOME. The above edition is just the perfect pop of brightness and cheerfulness I was looking for! Colorful Christmas is what they advertise, and that's exactly what you will get, yeah!!

A brand new interview with Anna Spiro, of Black & Spiro and the Absolutely Beautiful Things Blog, inspires a colorful and handmade Christmas enjoyed with friends and family.
These happy images from the store, makes me wish for a pop-up shop in South Florida :)

Anna is a master of color and mixing patterns, and this lamp with its fabric shade is a perfect example!!  I imagine this in an office, how can you not want to be at your desk?

So, I am aware that the focus is on the pompoms... but I think the mirror is super cool too. The pale wood and all the carved details, not to mention the height.

Come pull up a chair to this BRIGHT table... I could make up a whole story about the menu I would serve, the people I would like to entertain here and the dress code... any suggestions?

Jingle Bells are a must at Christmas, and why not white...?

OK, so these above images are from the adore HOME blog, but there are others in the magazine for you to explore.

AND, while you are at it, check out the Style Trail of Brisbane's Eastern Suburbs on page 70, everyone loves a good shopping trip, right? Only this virtual one will not empty your bank account :)

TGIF :)

California Modern

... with an entrance like this, don't you just just want to peak behind that gate??
You are in luck... follow me on a quick home tour!

Great outdoor space, makes inside / outside living easy... and with a facade of glass, lots of natural light gets in, making the home bright and cheerful.

The home is full of wonderful modern furniture classics and pops of color here and there to breaking up the all white space.

Stone floors and heigh ceilings keep the home cool, open plan living keeps the eye moving and opens the space, blurring the fine line between the inside and outside, visually extending the living space.

What is your thought on the multi colored chairs?? How fun is that... !

Check out this bathroom... LOVE all the light bouncing around! Waking up in the morning would be a delight... :) Pretty cool natural elements, and that picture window is not too shabby either.

Why not hang artwork outside?? I am not totally sold on the bright green color chosen for the upholstery here, but in keeping with the rest of the home, I guess it works... Your thoughts?

On the other hand; LOVE the color of the pool!! A cross between emerald green and turquoise makes it really "fit in". I am so used to seeing light turquoise pools here in Florida, this is more my style... and I don't even have my own pool...

So, did you like this home? I would love to live there, looks like a great home!! I would probably be spending most of the time outside, what about you??
